EFPU empowers communities to reduce unemployment through establishing social enterprises promoting life skills development and youth mentorship, bridge the digital divide through promotion of digital technology skills for advancement of businesses, job creation, health and education benefits to community members, We promote formal, informal, accelerated and literacy education among unprivileged and vulnerable communities, promote critical health interventions that address community health needs, improve agriculture value chain, engage in strategic partnerships and collaboration for the development of the community as well as carrying out research for development.
We believe that poverty incapacitates the ability of poor people to dream, disconnects them from opportunities and in the end makes them live disgraceful and miserable lives. Our work builds the capacity of unprivileged community members to overcome their socio-economic and health barriers by enhancing their business and entrepreneurship abilities, creating opportunities in health, education, agriculture and information technology for their development
In Uganda, 41.93 % of people live in poverty and we define poverty as a state or condition in which people or communities lack the financial resources and other essentials for a minimum standard of living. As such, they cannot meet the basic needs of life . People and families who live in poverty may go without proper housing, quality education, clean water, nutritious, medical care or even lacking information among other basic necessities.
James Claude is a certified program supervisor , capacity building specialist, researcher, activist as well as a monitoring and evaluation specialist. By founding Empowerment for the Poor-Uganda, James’s mission is to build confidence of vulnerable individuals and families to dream and then connect them to opportunities which help to break their barriers and live to their full potential.
James has a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Social Sciences from Makerere University Kampala, A Master’s Certificate in Human Rights from Dutch Institute of Human Rights and advanced training in Participatory Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation from Milday International Study Center. James’ dedication to community leadership and transformation earned him the prestigious Community Solutions Program Fellowship in 2015 of environmental issues given by U.S State Department, World Literacy Fellowship by World Literacy Foundation in 2020 , Civic Engagement Fellowship in 2021 of the African Civic Center at the University of Georgia still sponsored by the U.S State Department among others. James has also conducted numerous collaborative research assignments with different universities and institutions for the transformation of the community
Sandra is a Senior Programs Supervisor of Empowerment for the Poor- Uganda. Sandra has great passion provides strategic leadership to all programs which catalyzes transformative outcomes in vulnerable Ugandan communities. Sandra brings an experience of over 12 years to Empowerment for the Poor-Uganda having worked on USAID and UNAIDS funded programs for over 7 years. Sandra graduated with a bachelor of NGO Management from Cavendish University and has several trainings in community leadership.
Eva is a passionate human rights activist specializing in economic and social rights with expertise in a wide range of areas, including defending human rights of innocently convicted prisoners’, stakeholder engagement to defend rights of women and children among farming communities in Uganda. Eva is dedicated to addressing human rights challenges in Empowerment for the poor-Uganda such as gender based Violence, child labour, sexual harassments, land rights and unfair judicial rulings to the poor individuals . Eva has a Bachelors in Anthropology and a Masters of Human Rights from Makerere University.
